TOAST OF THE TOWN
The Breadalbane Inn, Fergus, has recently earned the distinction
of having the best VQA (Vintners¹ Quality Alliance) wine
list in the province, awarded for 2004 by the Wine Council of
Ontario. Holding their plaque of achievement is Breadalbane
Innkeeper Peter Egger, while sommelier or wine steward extraordinaire
Lawrence Mindham holds a bottle of 1993 Henry of Pelham Cabernet-Merlot
of the Niagara Penninsula. To warrant a VQA label of distinction,
wines have to be made from grapes of an approved variety grown
exclusively in Ontario. The Breadalbane was praised for their
collection, in addition to the quantity of wine. The oldest
bottle the Fergus inn has in its cellar is from 1991. The inn
competed with just under 30 other restaurants.
